How Augmented Reality Can Revolutionize the Music Industry

Considering every major technology company has its hands in augmented reality technology, we will inevitably see the effects of that in all kinds of digital sectors. From communication like video calling and meetings to audiovisual entertainment which includes movies and even live performances, the next major step that will change everything is undoubtedly going to be augmented reality or AR for short. Major players such as Apple, Facebook, Snap, and Microsoft have acknowledged that AR is the next big thing and are in works of bringing it to the mainstream public. You can even see AR in one of its forms as the lenses in the Snapchat app.

The music industry is one of the first that may see that change happen. After almost 20 years in 2016, the music streaming services caused an actual growth in the industry’s market thanks to Spotify and Apple Music, AR could be what the industry needs right now to spark even more growth. It has even happened already with some popular music artists that have partnered with companies to show off their music in AR.

Coachella is a great example. In 2012, they resurrected Tupac in a hologram form, and recently in 2017, they came up with the Coachella augmented reality apps that allowed users to activate an augmented reality mode creating a new hype for the festival-goers. Another example is the “Who’s That Chick” AR video created by Rihanna and David Guetta when they partnered with Doritos.

We can imagine that we will see the music industry adopt more AR in more ways such as innovative music videos, marketing campaigns, and especially live performances. Who knows what the future holds for augmented reality technology and the music industry? We can only predict that music lovers and enthusiasts are in for a treat.

If you are interested in AR, Blunt Action can provide consult and development services in the field of augmented reality apps. You can check out our recent project where we developed an AR game for a glassblower named Elbo. The game uses custom image recognition to spawn his creatures into a virtual world. This world is a virtual habitat is an oasis that aliens bring Elbo’s dinosaur creations. We are also releasing a section on our website in December, 2020 where people can freely access and view some of our AR projects. Be sure to check it out.
